Waking Night Worker

Job Introduction

What you’ll do

As a Waking Night Worker, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our residents feel safe, supported and secure. Working across one of our supported housing schemes, you’ll be the main point of contact for customers overnight, responding to issues, maintaining a safe environment and providing reassurance where needed.

The Waking Night Worker role is focused on creating a calm, well‑managed environment where residents can feel confident that support is available. Through your presence, communication and proactive approach, you’ll help deliver a high‑quality service that supports residents’ wellbeing and safety.

How you’ll do it

  • Ensure the safety and security of residents and buildings throughout the night.
  • Respond to residents’ needs and concerns promptly, either in person or via phone, providing reassurance and practical support.
  • Monitor communal areas and entry points, maintaining a secure and safe environment.
  • Respond to and manage anti‑social behaviour incidents appropriately, reducing impact and preventing escalation.
  • Carry out health and safety duties, report repairs and advocate for residents where needed.
  • Work with colleagues, care providers and stakeholders to support a coordinated and high‑quality service.

Pending confirmation of legislative changes, this role may require a qualification to demonstrate competence. If not already qualified, there may be an expectation to study towards a professional qualification.

Essential:

  • Experience delivering a customer‑focused service to people with support needs in a social care or housing environment.
  • Ability to apply relevant legislation, policy and best practice.
  • Numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2.
  • Clear and accurate written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to work nights from 8:00pm to 8:00am.

Desirable:

  • A social care or similar qualification relevant to the customer group.
