Job Introduction
Are you a strong manager with a passion for making sure buildings work for the people who live in them? Do you have experience of contractor, stakeholder and resident relationship management? If so, then we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for an Asbestos Manager to join us in Assets and Sustainability with complementary skillsets – the ability to manage a team of non-technical contract administration staff, build a strong culture of high performance, and ensure both contractors and staff work together to make sure our M&E equipment is compliant and in full working order.
Main Responsibility
You’ll lead a team to deliver the management of Asbestos across our portfolio by ensuring compulsory inspections are completed on time, accurate asset data is maintained, records and reports are available to all stakeholders and an efficient turnaround time on any identifiable works. You will also ensure that any incidents are reported on and followed up in accordance with NHG Policy and Procedures.
You will be accountable for the reinspection programme and survey and removal works performance. You’ll also work alongside the Head of Procurement to enter new contracts, ensuing specifications meet both business and resident expectations. You’ll work alongside our Fire Risk Manager, Engineering Manager and their team of Neighbourhood Engineers to resolve complex or multi-disciplinary works that involve asbestos to ensure they’re resolved swiftly for the benefit of our residents.
In summary, you’ll deliver a service that ensures equipment is well maintained, meets statutory, regulatory and corporate standards and you’ll act as the point of contact for escalated enquiries.
The Ideal Candidate
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to build on your experience of managing a team, to support and develop others and build a strong service that responds to residents. Your experience in performance management and building a clear team identity and positive culture will be essential. You will bring experience of managing contractor relationships and building connections with residents, while experience in procurement is useful and you will have a comprehensive understanding of Asbestos services. Resident safety will be your top priority while making sure that work carried out offers value for money.
There are opportunities within Assets and Sustainability to further develop your career in Asbestos, to learn more about how our business operates and showcase your ability to build relationships in a supportive and vibrant environment.
We believe we work best when we’re together, so you’ll be expected to work from our head office in Kings Cross at least three days a week, as well as visit other locations as necessary to get the job done. A willingness to travel and be flexible is vital.

About the Company
Notting Hill Genesis is now one of the largest housing associations in London and the south east. We own and manage more than 66,000 homes and employ around 2,000 staff. We provide homes across a range of tenures and are committed to continuing to deliver housing that is affordable to all. Our roots reach back to the 1960s when our legacy organisations were established by local people who shared a similar vision – to house west London’s working poor, providing them a home from which to build themselves and their families a secure future.
Our people
We value our people and both respect and celebrate their differences. We’re proud to say that our colleagues come from different backgrounds, with varied outlooks and are from all over the world. We encourage and are committed to diversity. We know that when people with varied experiences and unique points of view come together, it makes us a stronger organisation and more able to help the wide range of residents that we serve. We want all our colleagues to bring their full selves to work in a culture and environment based on respect and fairness, regardless of role, background or ability.
Our pledges
We are proud signatories of the G15 group’s diversity pledge to encourage more diversity in the boardroom and at senior level. The pledge on Black, Asian and minority ethnic diversity commits NHG to reflect the ethnic diversity of the communities we work in at all levels and particularly at senior managerial, leadership and board levels.
We have under-representation of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic colleagues at this level and are keen to fill this gap. We welcome applications from everyone. For this role, we especially encourage Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates to join us and be part of an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity, equality of opportunity and provides a place for you to grow your career.
We are also a Stonewall Diversity Champion, a Disability Confident employer and have signed up to Harry’s Pledge. We actively monitor the diversity of our workforce and strive to show equal representation throughout all levels of the organisation.
