Competence and professional standards partner

Job Introduction

What you’ll do

As a Competence and Professional Standards Partner, you will be the organisational expert for workforce competence, behaviours and capability, aligned to our corporate strategies, values and current and emerging legislative, regulatory and professional requirements.

You will play a critical role in shaping how the organisation understands and applies competence requirements across roles and functions, providing clarity on accountability now and in the future. You will translate complex external standards into clear, practical guidance that supports organisational design, workforce planning, learning pathways and talent decisions.

Working collaboratively with HR Business Partners, People Development, Talent Acquisition and senior leaders, the Competence and Professional Standards Partner helps ensure statutory and regulatory competence requirements are consistently embedded, understood and sustained, supporting safe, effective and compliant service delivery.

How you’ll do it

  • Act as the organisation’s trusted specialist on competence, conduct and behavioural expectations arising from regulation, legislation and professional standards
  • Provide assurance and insight on current and future competence risks, identifying priority areas, critical roles and actions to reduce exposure
  • Apply a competence perspective to workforce and succession planning to ensure future capability reflects emerging regulatory and legislative expectations
  • Design, maintain and govern frameworks, guidance and tools that define and support consistent understanding of competence and accountability
  • Use data, insight, research and external intelligence to identify trends, risks and opportunities, influencing evidence‑based decision making
  • Work in partnership with HR Business Partners to embed competence and regulatory requirements into role design, organisational change and people practices
  • Collaborate with People Development to inform learning strategies and development pathways linked to competence requirements
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure attraction, assessment and selection approaches reflect regulatory expectations and role accountability
  • Ensure that you follow and keep up to date with all relevant NHG and statutory policies and related procedures including health and safety and financial regulations
