Fire Risk Surveyor

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Do you have experience of carrying out surveys and specifying work to improve fire safety in residential buildings? Have you developed good working relationships with consultants, contractors, and residents? Do you have good, practical knowledge of fire safety regulations and legislation? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for four Fire Safety Surveyors to join us in Assets and Sustainability to take Fire Risk Assessment actions identified by our consultants and turn them into clear specifications for our contractors to deliver to your high standards.

This role requires a good knowledge and understanding of Fire Risk Assessments to enable correct remedial measures to address the issues as highlighted.  Therefore past experience is absolutely essential.  Applications will be shortlisted on receipt and applicants invited to interview while the advert remains live.

Main Responsibility

Each Fire Safety Surveyor will work in one of four regions to ensure the full NHG portfolio of properties is covered. Most of our homes are either in London, or within easy reach of London. You will attend our buildings to draw up specifications of work, carry out pre- and post- work inspections, write reports following fire incidents and represent NHG on site alongside consultants, contractors and regulatory bodies. You'll support your fellow Fire Safety Surveyors to deliver a high standard of work sharing your knowledge and experience and receiving the benefit of theirs.

The Ideal Candidate

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to build on your experience of building surveying and fire safety knowledge to ensure essential works are delivered that keep our residents safe. While you won’t be directly responsible for the contract management of our suppliers, you will have an important role to play in overseeing works being carried out, building relationships with contractors and providing feedback to both the contractors and the NHG contract administration team. Resident safety will be your top priority while making sure that work carried out offers value for money. You'll work alongside operational colleagues to co-ordinate works being carried out in our buildings that have a positive impact on fire safety.

There are opportunities within Assets and Sustainability to further develop your career in compliance, to learn more about how our business operates and showcase your ability to build relationships in a supportive and vibrant environment.

As you would expect, you’ll spend most of your time out on site in our buildings specifying works or following up with contractors on works in progress. You will spend some time in our Kings Cross head office catching up with colleagues and your manager. A willingness to travel and be flexible is vital.

In return we offer:

  • Excellent annual leave allowance and flexible working opportunities (qualifying period may apply)
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay - we offer enhanced maternity and adoption pay in addition to statutory entitlements (qualifying period may apply)
  • Employee assistance - free confidential advice and counselling services provided by independent specialist organisations
  • Health cash plan
  • Staff discounts - we give our staff access to discounts at hundreds of major retailers, gyms, restaurants, entertainment, days out, insurance and much more
  • Interest free loans: season ticket loan, tenancy deposit loan and training loan
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Life Assurance x 4 annual salary

About the Company

Notting Hill Genesis is now one of the largest housing associations in London and the south east. We own and manage more than 66,000 homes and employ around 2,000 staff. We provide homes across a range of tenures and are committed to continuing to deliver housing that is affordable to all. Our roots reach back to the 1960s when our legacy organisations were established by local people who shared a similar vision – to house west London’s working poor, providing them a home from which to build themselves and their families a secure future.

Our people

We value our people and both respect and celebrate their differences. We’re proud to say that our colleagues come from different backgrounds, with varied outlooks and are from all over the world. We encourage and are committed to diversity. We know that when people with varied experiences and unique points of view come together, it makes us a stronger organisation and more able to help the wide range of residents that we serve. We want all our colleagues to bring their full selves to work in a culture and environment based on respect and fairness, regardless of role, background or ability.

Our pledges

We are proud signatories of the G15 group’s diversity pledge to encourage more diversity in the boardroom and at senior level.  The pledge on Black, Asian and minority ethnic diversity commits NHG to reflect the ethnic diversity of the communities we work in at all levels and particularly at senior managerial, leadership and board levels.

We have under-representation of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic colleagues at this level and are keen to fill this gap. We welcome applications from everyone. For this role, we especially encourage Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates to join us and be part of an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity, equality of opportunity and provides a place for you to grow your career.

We are also a Stonewall Diversity Champion, a Disability Confident employer and have signed up to Harry’s Pledge. We actively monitor the diversity of our workforce and strive to show equal representation throughout all levels of the organisation.
