Group Finance Manager - Reporting and Control

Job Introduction

What you’ll do 

As our Group Finance Manager – Financial Accounting and Control, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and effectiveness of financial reporting across Notting Hill Genesis. 

Working as a senior member of the Financial Reporting and Control team, you’ll be responsible for the preparation of Group and subsidiary statutory accounts, coordinating our interim and year-end audits and ensuring regulatory returns are delivered accurately and on time. 

You’ll work closely with the Head of Financial Accounting and Control, providing expert technical accounting support across Group accounting activities and deputising when required. You’ll also provide senior leaders and committees with clear, insightful analysis on the financial health of the organisation, helping us make well-informed decisions.

How you’ll do it 

  • Lead the preparation of statutory accounts for the Group and its subsidiaries, ensuring high-quality, accurate and timely reporting.
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of quarterly, interim and year-end audits across Group entities.
  • Develop and manage the year-end audit timetable, working collaboratively with Finance Managers, Heads of Service, auditors and colleagues across NHG to support smooth and timely delivery.
  • Ensure all required financial regulatory returns and filings are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Support the Head of Financial Accounting and Control across Group accounting activities and deputise when required.
  • Lead the monthly reconciliation and accurate recording of intercompany transactions across Group entities.
  • Undertake quarterly analytical reviews of Group entities, providing meaningful insight into financial performance and financial health.
  • Prepare and support financial reporting to senior management and relevant committees.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical accounting knowledge and monitor developments within the housing sector, ensuring relevant changes are appropriately implemented.
  • Provide specialist technical accounting advice and support to colleagues across Finance and the wider organisation.
  • Strengthen financial reporting and internal control processes, ensuring the integrity, reliability and accuracy of underlying financial data.
  • Work with colleagues across the organisation to address audit findings and recommendations and continuously improve financial controls.
  • Build strong and effective relationships with Finance colleagues, auditors and stakeholders across NHG.
  • Lead, manage and mentor team members, creating an environment that supports continuous learning, professional development and high performance.

Responsibilities 

  • Take ownership of high-quality Group financial accounting and reporting across NHG and its subsidiaries.
  • Ensure statutory accounts are prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the key Finance lead for the coordination and management of external audits.
  • Ensure financial controls and reconciliations are robust, well documented and operating effectively.
  • Provide accurate and insightful financial information to support effective decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, controls and ways of working.
  • Work collaboratively across Finance and the wider organisation to deliver audit and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain effective relationships with external auditors and other relevant external stakeholders.
  • Support the development of a customer-focused and continuous improvement culture across Finance.
  • Develop and empower colleagues to deliver consistently high-quality financial reporting and control.

The ideal candidate

Essential: 

  • A fully qualified accountant with a CCAB-recognised accounting qualification, supported by ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
  • Extensive experience of preparing statutory accounts from end to end, ideally at Group level within the social housing sector.
  • Significant experience of leading and managing interim and year-end audits, including coordinating external auditors and internal Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
  • Strong technical financial accounting knowledge and the ability to keep abreast of accounting, regulatory and sector developments.
  • Experience of regulatory financial returns and filings, with a track record of delivering accurate submissions within required deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of financial controls and the ability to develop, strengthen and influence control frameworks across Finance and the wider organisation.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing, coaching and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build relationships and influence a wide range of senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and use data to develop practical solutions and support decision-making.
  • High levels of integrity, objectivity, professional competence, confidentiality and professional behaviour.
  • Strong Excel skills. Experience of Sun Systems, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power BI would be advantageous.
