Job Introduction
Have you worked on the tools as a Lift Engineer - Installation or Maintenance? Do you have experience of solving problems and working with others to return lifting equipment to full working order? Would you like to move away from the tools if you haven't done so already? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
Main Responsibility
We’re looking to recruit two Lift Engineers to support our contract administration team, resident facing staff and contractors to ensure the lifting equipment in our buildings is in good working order and returned to service quickly when a repair is reported.
The two Lift Engineers will cover the whole NHG property portfolio, attending our buildings to support the diagnosis of faults and specify solutions working in partnership with our contractors. You can expect to be dealing with passenger lifts in low, medium and high-rise blocks, including our supported and sheltered housing where the lifts are absolutely vital to our residents.
Each Lift Engineer will also assist our contractors with our domestic lift portfolio, consisting of through-floor lifts, platform lifts, hoists, adjustable baths and stairlifts. In terms of numbers, we’ve got 696 passenger lifts and 768 domestic lifts.
Our contractors will carry out the actual repairs, but your skills and experience will be invaluable in making sure complex repairs, or repairs that require multiple trades, get completed quickly and effectively. You’ll build relationships with resident-facing staff and contractors to ensure updates are communicated efficiently and you’ll be an ambassador for NHG while working in our buildings.
The Ideal Candidate
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to build on your experience of working on lifting equipment in a residential setting. You’ll be an excellent problem-solver and see things through to their completion, making sure our residents are inconvenienced for as little time as possible. You’ll share your knowledge and experience with the other Lift Engineer as well as the contract administration staff based in our Kings Cross office. As well as enjoying the practical and technical side of the role, you’ll also be a people person, always remembering that our residents are our priority.
You will have experience installing or maintaining lift installations which you will draw on to assist when diagnosing technical lift issues. You will ensure that the works completed by our contractors offer value for money and that they complete repairs in a timely manner. You will work with our LOLER inspectors to ensure that all our assets are inspected on time and that any identified defects are passed to our contractors and resolved prior to their deadline.
There are opportunities within Assets and Sustainability to further develop your career in compliance and M&E, to learn more about how our business operates and showcase your ability to build relationships in a supportive and vibrant environment.
You will spend much of your time out at our sites (which are primarily within London) along with visits to our Kings Cross office to catch up with your manager and colleagues. A willingness to travel and be flexible is vital. You will need a current driving license and your own vehicle for some of our remote sites, however most travel will be using public transport. We will reimburse mileage and travelcard costs for site visits.

About the Company
Notting Hill Genesis is now one of the largest housing associations in London and the south east. We own and manage more than 66,000 homes and employ around 2,000 staff. We provide homes across a range of tenures and are committed to continuing to deliver housing that is affordable to all. Our roots reach back to the 1960s when our legacy organisations were established by local people who shared a similar vision – to house west London’s working poor, providing them a home from which to build themselves and their families a secure future.
Our people
We value our people and both respect and celebrate their differences. We’re proud to say that our colleagues come from different backgrounds, with varied outlooks and are from all over the world. We encourage and are committed to diversity. We know that when people with varied experiences and unique points of view come together, it makes us a stronger organisation and more able to help the wide range of residents that we serve. We want all our colleagues to bring their full selves to work in a culture and environment based on respect and fairness, regardless of role, background or ability.
Our pledges
We are proud signatories of the G15 group’s diversity pledge to encourage more diversity in the boardroom and at senior level. The pledge on Black, Asian and minority ethnic diversity commits NHG to reflect the ethnic diversity of the communities we work in at all levels and particularly at senior managerial, leadership and board levels.
We have under-representation of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic colleagues at this level and are keen to fill this gap. We welcome applications from everyone. For this role, we especially encourage Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates to join us and be part of an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity, equality of opportunity and provides a place for you to grow your career.
We are also a Stonewall Diversity Champion, a Disability Confident employer and have signed up to Harry’s Pledge. We actively monitor the diversity of our workforce and strive to show equal representation throughout all levels of the organisation.
