Job Introduction

What you’ll do 

As a Paralegal (Transactions), you’ll be part of our in-house Legal Services team, providing specialist legal support across a wide range of property transactions with a particular focus on shared ownership and leasehold properties.

You’ll work closely with operational teams, sales colleagues and external legal professionals to progress property transactions efficiently while ensuring legal compliance and protecting NHG’s interests.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with property law experience who enjoys managing complex legal matters in a fast-paced environment while delivering excellent customer outcomes.

How you’ll do it

  • Manage your own caseload of property transaction matters including staircasing, resales, lease extensions, licences for alterations, deeds of covenant and plot sales.
  • Review leases, Land Registry titles, title deeds and transfer documentation.
  • Provide specialist legal advice on leasehold, shared ownership and property law matters.
  • Liaise with external conveyancers, solicitors and valuers to progress transactions.
  • Draft, review and issue legal documentation and correspondence.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and NHG policies.
  • Work collaboratively with Sales, Service Charges, Asset Management, Repairs and Housing teams.
  • Maintain accurate legal records and case management systems.
  • Deliver guidance and training to colleagues on property law and legal risk.
  • Support wider Legal Services initiatives and continuous improvement projects.

The ideal candidate

You’ll provide proactive legal services help and advice to your team and the wider business. As the environment is extremely busy, we’ll be counting on you to support your colleagues to deliver an excellent service. You’ll also need to have good written skills and be very organised in order to meet deadlines and ensure the work of the team runs smoothly. 

Essential:

  • Law degree, CILEx or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience working within property law, ideally within social housing, local government or private practice.
  • Experience managing property transaction caseloads.
  • Strong understanding of leasehold law, shared ownership and conveyancing.
  • Ability to interpret leases, Land Registry documentation and title deeds.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong legal drafting, analytical and report writing skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience using legal databases and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate legal risk.
