Job Introduction

What you’ll do
As the Tax associate, you will support the Tax manager to ensure VAT compliance, assisting on other indirect taxes and compliance as required. identifying risk and tax planning opportunities that benefit NHG, and ensure all processes are completed on a timely basis.

As an integral part of the Finance team, you will drive a customer centric ethos and continuous improvement culture within our Finance team, ensuring all finance services deliver the best outcomes for our residents
 
How you’ll do it
    Managing NHG VAT positions in accordance with legal requirements and prepare the VAT return for Group and subsidiary entities for submission to HMRC.
    Ensure all VAT journals are posted, control accounts reconciled and appropriate monitoring schedules updated on a timely basis in compliance with the monthly reporting time table.
    Maintain a professional working relationship with HMRC, acting as the main contact point for correspondence, disclosures and inspections.
    Supporting the smooth and timely delivery of the group interim and final audit as it relates to tax matters.
    Ensure identified errors are swiftly rectified and future recurrence prevented, where appropriate work with external advisors to make voluntary disclosures to HMRC.
    Ensure all tax relevant queries are swiftly resolved while maintaining the FAQ schedule so users have a first point of reference on tax matters and provide tax technical answers to ad hoc queries.
    Maintain accurate data, managing large complex data sets on excel and in-house systems
    Review the Group’s VAT Partial Exemption calculation and advise on the impact of any financial decisions on the calculation
    Maintain the Corporate tax compliance schedule reflecting the submission status and tax penalties that might exist across all tax areas.
    Provide expertise and lead on specific VAT compliance matters where required.
    Support the delivery of continuous performance improvements across the financial accounting and control function.

Pending confirmation of legislative changes, this role may require a qualification to demonstrate competence. If not already qualified, there may be an expectation to study towards a professional qualification.
 
In addition, you will need the following: 
 
    Hold or studying for the relevant CCAB recognised accounting qualification (CTI) with supporting CPD.
    Extensive experience of indirect Tax (CIS, CT, PAYE & NIC) and VAT within a large complex business
    Strong communication and interpersonal skills for diverse audience engagement; work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
    Strategic thinking ability; capable of analysing complex data to make data driven decisions
    Experience influencing operational activities at both tactical and strategic levels across all areas of the business
    Proficiency in Excel; knowledge of D365 and Power BI preferred
    Uphold ethical principles including integrity, objectivity, professional competence, confidentiality, and professional behaviour
