Head of Learning & Development

Job Introduction

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in joining the People Directorate at Notting Hill Genesis.

This is an exciting time to join NHG. Our People function is evolving to become more confident, proactive and insight‑led, working in close partnership with leaders to build capability, strengthen performance and support the delivery of great outcomes for residents.

People Development sits at the heart of our People Strategy. Our work helps colleagues build the skills, confidence and capability they need to deliver high‑quality, resident‑focused services—now and in the future. We play a central role in shaping NHG’s culture, leadership approach and ways of working, supporting a consistent, values‑led colleague experience across the organisation.

The Head of Learning & Development plays a critical role in this ambition. You will lead NHG’s learning and capability agenda, ensuring colleagues are inducted effectively, meet regulatory and competence requirements, and continue to develop the skills and behaviours needed to perform at their best.

What the role is all about

As Head of Learning & Development, reporting to the People Development Director, you will shape and deliver an effective, organisation‑wide learning service that enables NHG to perform at its best for residents.

You will be accountable for ensuring colleagues are equipped with the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to deliver safe, compliant and high‑quality services. This includes oversight of statutory, mandatory and compliance learning, induction and onboarding, and broader capability development aligned to NHG’s values and performance culture.

Working as part of the People Directorate leadership team, you will partner closely with HR Business Partners, Centres of Expertise and senior leaders across NHG, providing insight, challenge and leadership that strengthens organisational capability, confidence and delivery.

How you’ll make a difference

You will strengthen organisational performance, compliance and capability by:

  • Leading a learning and capability offer that supports consistent service standards, values‑led behaviours and resident‑focused outcomes
  • Ensuring NHG meets all regulatory and statutory learning requirements, including the competence and conduct standard
  • Building a comprehensive skills, technical and behavioural learning offer that supports performance and culture
  • Using workforce insight and learning data to identify priorities, target investment and drive measurable impact

Your impact will be seen through improved compliance, stronger capability, confident managers and a colleague experience that reflects NHG’s values.

How you’ll do it

  • Lead the organisation‑wide learning and capability strategy, aligned to the People Strategy, TOM and “Residents First” priorities
  • Lead and develop a team of c.13 colleagues (including 3 direct reports), providing clear direction, coaching and strong people leadership
  • Manage the Learning & Development budget, ensuring learning investment delivers value for money and organisational impact
  • Act as a senior adviser on statutory, mandatory and compliance learning, including competence and conduct requirements
  • Lead the design and delivery of NHG’s induction and onboarding approach, ensuring consistent, high‑quality experiences for colleagues and managers
  • Set standards and frameworks for role‑based induction and probation support, enabling colleagues to perform quickly and confidently
  • Act as business owner for NHG’s Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring it supports compliance, capability and behavioural development
  • Oversee the development of capability frameworks that underpin performance, competence and career pathways
  • Procure and manage learning suppliers, ensuring quality delivery and value for money
  • Use workforce data and insight to prioritise learning needs and inform decision‑making
  • Work collaboratively across HR and with external partners to ensure learning activity is joined‑up, proactive and impact‑focused
