The Learning Design & Systems Manager plays a critical role within this ambition. This is a leadership role for an experienced learning professional who enjoys shaping high‑quality learning design, leading specialist teams and ensuring learning systems and content enable confident performance at scale.
What the role is all about
As Learning Design & Systems Manager, reporting to the Head of Learning & Development, you’ll lead NHG’s Design & Systems team to create a high‑quality, scalable and sustainable learning offer across the organisation.
You’ll be responsible for the design and governance of technical, skills, behavioural and compliance learning, ensuring content aligns with NHG’s values, service expectations and competence and conduct requirements. Working closely with Learning & Development Partners, HR Business Partners, Talent & Performance Partners and operational leaders, you’ll ensure learning needs are clearly understood and translated into effective, accessible learning solutions.
You’ll also provide strategic oversight of NHG’s Learning Management System (LMS), working closely with the Learning Systems Specialist to ensure the platform supports compliance, capability development and a positive colleague experience.

- Creating a clear,consistentand scalable learning offer that supports colleagues across all directorates
- Ensuring learning content reflects NHG’s values, service standards and competence and conduct expectations
- Leading high‑quality curriculum design across technical, skills, behavioural and compliance learning
- Supporting audit readiness and compliance through effective learning design and systems oversight
- Enabling a seamless colleague learning experience through well‑governed content and systems

How you’ll do it
You’ll work collaboratively across People Development and the wider organisation to ensure learning design and systems are aligned, effective and future‑focused. This includes:
- Leading and developing a team of learning design and systems specialists, providing clear direction, coaching and quality oversight
- Working with L&D Partners, HRBPs, Talent & Performance Partners and leaders to clarify learning needs and prioritise design activity
- Setting and maintaining clear design standards, frameworks and governance to ensure consistency and quality
- Overseeing the design and quality assurance of learning content across technical, skills, behavioural and compliance areas
- Partnering with subject‑matter experts to ensure learning content is accurate, relevant and up to date
- Providing strategic oversight of the LMS, ensuring it supports capability development, compliance tracking and positive user experience
- Working closely with induction colleagues to ensure onboarding content is accurate, engaging and aligned to the wider learning offer
- Championing continuous improvement, innovation and accessibility across NHG’s learning design and digital learning environment
- You’llplay a key role in ensuring learning design and systems activity is joined‑up, well‑governed and aligned to organisational priorities.
All about you
Essential
- Experience designing or overseeing the design of learning solutions, including technical, skills, behavioural and compliance content
- Strong understanding of learning design methodologies, digital learning principles and accessibility standards
- Experience working with HR, learning partners, operational leader sand subject‑matter experts
- Knowledge of statutory, mandatory and competence‑related learning requirements
- Experience working with or overseeing Learning Management Systems (LMS) and learning content governance
- Strong people‑leadership skills, with experience leading and developing specialist teams
- Excellent planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to balance multiple workstreams
- A collaborative, improvement‑focusedapproachand commitment to positive colleague experience
- CIPD, learning design qualification or equivalent experience is desirable but not essential.
